Rare and Beautiful. Genuine Roman Ring in Bronze with Silver Intaglio bezel with Goddess Fortuna. What a lovely touch to put your favourite Goddess as a silver inlay in a Bronze Ring. Bought from a collector in Vienna but originally unearthed in Noricum (modern Austria). Noricum, region of Europe north of what is now Italy, roughly comprising modern central Austria and parts of Bavaria, Ger. Noricum was originally a kingdom controlled by a Celtic confederacy that dominated an earlier Illyrian population. Around 400 BC, Celtic peoples from Western Europe settled in the eastern Alps. A Celtic state, Noricum, developed around the region''s ironworks in the second century BC. The Romans occupied Noricum without resistance in 9 B.C. and made the Danube River the effective northern frontier of their empire.
Fortuna is the Roman Goddess of Luck, Fate, and Fortune, as Her name implies. She was a very popular Goddess, and was worshipped under many epithets depending on the type of luck one wished to invoke or the circumstances in play.
