Roman Wedding Ring in Bronze. Roman Bronze Handclasp Clasped Hands Betrothal Ring. The "handfast" marriage can be traced back to the Roman times "Dextrarum iunctio" which appears on Roman tombstones, and which appears to be echoed in medieval images of the Marriage of the Virgin. Most scholars feel that the legal tradition of "handfasting" from roman days can be traced to its usage in ritual of a christian marriage. Circa 1st to 4th century AD.
