Celtic Bronze Ring Druid Knotwork Ouroboros Design
Celtic Eye Bronze Ring with Super Engravings which comes from the Danube Valley where the Celtic "Barbarians" held sway for centuries before being dominated by the might of Imperial Rome and this example dates from between 400 - 200 B.C..
This authentic ancient Celtic ring is in near perfect condition for a ring of this type and extreme age. It has the classic "Celtic Tribal Eye" design bezel which sits proudly above the top of the band making for a sleeker looking ring. This rings bezel is quite thick which makes for a quite substantial ring.
This ring was well loved and well worn for many years, you can see that it had a large decorative pontle which covered almost a quarter of the band but it has been worn almost smooth and to the level of the rest of the band.
The best feature though, is the face of the bezel with it's super engravings The centre engraving is of multiple lines which form a well balanced geometric "KNOTWORK" pattern. The central design resembles an "Ouroborus" or an "infinity serpent" because how it crosses over itself like a "MOBIUS STRIP" and lot of early knotwork decorations. These Knotwork and Basketweave patterns were used extensively by Celtic Tribes and they were strongly influenced by their neighbours, the Greeks and had no problem "borrowing" decoration styles.
