Beautiful Golden "SUN" Symbol
This ancient Roman ring was found at a site in Ancient Thrace and dates from the 1st Century AD The ring features a flat 11mm round bezel with a "SUN" symbol in the center of the outlining decoration. These sun symbols were extremely popular among many Mediterranean cultures.
It traveled west as the symbol of Mithra who was a god that was worshipped in Mesopotamia by various cultures. This symbol was also used in Rome for the worship of Sol Invictus. The central "SUN" symbol is quite deep and is similar to other styles of rings dedicated to Sol Invictus The "SUN" is composed of many well done linear "rays" that seem to swirl in a clockwise direction.
