Roman Ring - Bronze
Product Information
Roman Bronze Ring EARLY MALTESE CROSS
This roman ancient ring was found at a Roman site in Ancient Moesia and dates from between 300 and 500 AD
The ring features a rounded octagonal table bezel that measures 14.5mm X 14.5mm. The perfectly engraved cross on the bezel is known as an "anserated" cross which means it is composed of other items to form a cross. These early anserated crosses always have all four arms of the same length and terminate in a wider object. The most famous of this cross type, is the "Maltese Cross" of which this is an excellent example. These designs became more prevalent towards the end of days in the Western Empire and the time of prominence in the Eastern Empire.
This ring has some of the "classic" design elements, especially the shoulders, which still have some deep notched decorations remaining on them. The coluor and shine of this ring's mirror-smooth surface are flawless due to the ring being cast from an alloy with a VERY high copper content.
